Strengths SB Breakers Take from Two Older Designs

Design work behind SB breakers combined molded case construction with low-voltage power circuit technology. Strong interrupting capacity, high withstand ratings, and long mechanical endurance all came out of that pairing. Thermoset insulation around the case keeps an operator electrically separated from live parts. Field-interchangeable rating plugs let one frame cover several ampere values without a new breaker. Fixed and draw-out installations use the same frame, which is why one design covered so many switchboards.

Parts of the SB Line We Keep in Stock

Complete assemblies, rating plugs, trip units, neutral sensors, cradles, and accessories fall inside our stock of SB breakers. Four frame ratings cover the line, at 1200, 2000, 3200, and 5000 amps. Plugs inside each frame set the working ampere value, letting a 1200 unit run at 400, 800, or its full rating. Depth in that range puts SB gear among the larger sections of our industrial circuit breakers inventory. Type designation matters more than frame size alone, since SBA, SBS, and SBH carry different interrupting ratings. Only the SBH type offers 800 amps on a 2000 amp frame. Cradles for draw-out units are stocked separately, since a breaker without its cradle will not rack in. Rebuilt assemblies are stocked as well, each inspected and tested before shipping.

Buildings Running More Than One Breaker Brand

Few buildings run only SB breakers, because equipment gets added a decade at a time. Square D gear alongside it takes Schneider Electric breakers, which come off the same shelf. Cutler-Hammer and Westinghouse panels turn up in the same rooms just as often. Those require Eaton circuit breakers, so a lineup with several brands still needs only one supplier. GE and ITE equipment appears in those buildings too, and the parts come from one inventory. Custom builds to a customer's specification handle whatever no catalog part covers.

Locating the right unit starts with the label on the existing SB breakers. Label data covers the type designation, frame size, ampere rating, and trip unit. With those details our electrical equipment supplier can identify the match. Tested rebuilds are an option when nothing original remains in that configuration.
